Introducing The Action Report

Welcome to the first edition of The Action Report! I know staying on top of EveryAction updates and industry trends is a lot, and I want to help make that easier for you. If you’d like to receive these updates directly in your inbox, click here to subscribe to my newsletter.

This is also a work in progress, and I want it to be genuinely useful to you. If there's a topic, feature, or resource you'd like me cover, whether that's a deep dive on a specific EveryAction tool, a question you keep running into, or something else entirely, let me know. I'm all ears.

What's New in EveryAction: May 2026 Roundup

I attended the May 7th EveryAction Product Updates webinar so you don't have to. Here are the most important developments worth knowing about.

New Login Experience — Released

You probably noticed the new Bonterra branded login screen. This update strengthens backend security and creates a more unified sign-in experience for organizations using multiple Bonterra products.

An Overhauled Image Library — Q3 2026

One of EveryAction's most outdated features is finally getting a full rework. Currently, images can't be moved or deleted once uploaded. The Q3 release changes all of that:

  • Total overhaul of the Image Library user experience

  • Move files, create folders, organize and delete images

  • All existing images will be migrated automatically with no action needed on your part

Reports Are Getting a Major Rebuild — In Development

Hooray! Reports are being overhauled! Developers have heard our feedback and are working on improving this feature. Key items highlighted:

  • Enhanced field consistency across all reports. The goal is to eliminate the need to run multiple reports and stitch data together in Excel.

  • This will require a full backend rearchitecture, so there's no release timeline yet unfortunately (they are currently in Discovery phase).

Recommendation: Keep submitting product feedback on reporting features. Post questions and discussion items in the Bonterra Community. Visibility drives development priority.

AI Features: What's Available and What's Coming

Bonterra continues to prioritize AI across its platforms. All organizations receive free monthly "Bonterra Que" credits at no additional cost.

Already released

  • List & search creation via natural language:

    • Ask Que to generate searches in CAL and refine from there

  • Email drafting with your campaign language:

    • Currently available in the Classic Editor (HTML-coded emails); drag-and-drop editor support is in development

  • Optimized Contribution Form creation

    • A faster way to spin up simple donation forms

Anticipated Q2 2026

Duplicate Management via Que

  • Automatic duplicate identification and a faster merge process; no extra credits required (at launch). Expected late May or June.

2025 M+R Benchmarks: Nonprofit Trends

The 2025 M+R Benchmarks Study is out. I consider it one of the most comprehensive annual reports on nonprofit fundraising and marketing trends. Here are some standout findings:

  • Two-thirds of nonprofits receiving federal funding reported a drop in that funding in 2025, yet individual, online giving increased by 15%. M+R sees this as a crisis-response among supporters who feel causes they care about are under threat.

  • 37% of all online revenue was raised in December, an ongoing trend.

    • Email directly sourced 11% of all online revenue, with a 16% average increase in email revenue.

  • Monthly gifts now account for 27% of online revenue. Notably, one-time gift growth (+17%) outpaced monthly giving growth (+12%) this year, breaking with the long-term trend.

  • After one year, 71% of sustainers remain active. After two years, just over half of all monthly gifts are still going, reinforcing that sustainer retention is key to long-term program growth.

  • Donor-advised fund revenue rose 44%,a trend worth prioritizing for development teams across the sector.
